Betty licensing and what your account does in each province
Updated September 28, 2026
Gambling in Canada is regulated province by province, not nationally. That single fact explains most of what follows. Betty is authorized in one province, Ontario, and the way your account behaves in other provinces comes straight from that. This page sets out who oversees us, what you can and cannot do depending on where you are, and where to turn if something goes wrong.
Who regulates Betty
Betty Gaming operates Betty Casino in Ontario under a registration with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), and offers its games through an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario.
The two bodies have different jobs. The AGCO is the regulator. It sets the standards operators must follow, including rules on game integrity, advertising, identity checks and safer play, and it registers the operators and suppliers that meet them. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages the online gaming market, and each private operator in it, Betty included, works under an agreement with iGaming Ontario.
You can confirm the list of registered operators on the AGCO website. We do not print our registration number on this page, since the public record on the regulator's own site is the reliable place to check.
What your account can do in each province
Your Betty login is the same wherever you are. What changes is which features work, because real-money play is tied to Ontario. Before every real-money session, a geolocation check confirms where your device is.
| Where you are | Sign in and manage account | Withdraw your balance | Safer-play tools | Real-money play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ontario | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes, age 19+ |
| Quebec | Yes | Yes | Yes | No, wait until you are back in Ontario |
| British Columbia | Yes | Yes | Yes | No, wait until you are back in Ontario |
| Alberta | Yes | Yes | Yes | No, wait until you are back in Ontario |
| Manitoba | Yes | Yes | Yes | No, wait until you are back in Ontario |
| Any other province or country | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
In practice, travelling does not strand your money. If you are in Edmonton and want to cash out, request the withdrawal as usual. If a trip to Quebec City is a good moment for a break, the time-out tool is right there in your account. Only the games wait.
Why a VPN will not help
The geolocation check looks at more than an IP address, and deliberately hiding your location breaks our account terms. An attempt to get around it can lead to the account being suspended and winnings from that session being withheld while we review it.
Provincial lottery sites
Outside Ontario, legal online casino play is mostly offered by the provinces themselves. Loto-Québec runs its own site in Quebec, BCLC runs PlayNow for British Columbia and Manitoba, and Alberta has PlayAlberta. Those are separate organizations with separate accounts. Betty has no connection to them, and a Betty account gives no access to their games.
What Betty does not hold
Some online casinos available in Canada rely on a licence from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. Betty does not hold a Kahnawake licence and does not use one to accept players from outside Ontario. Our only authority to offer real-money play comes from the Ontario framework described above, which is why the location rule works the way it does.
Fair games
Every game on Betty comes from a supplier registered with the AGCO. Before a game goes live in Ontario, it has to be tested by an independent testing laboratory to confirm that its random number generator produces unpredictable results and that it pays out the way its rules say. Games are tested again after significant changes.
Each game shows its rules and, for slots, its return-to-player figure in the information panel. That figure is a long-run average across a very large number of rounds. It says nothing about what will happen in your next session, and short sessions can land far above or below it.
Age rules
You must be 19 or older to hold a Betty account and to play in Ontario. We check age when you register and again during verification.
For reference only, the legal gambling age is 18 in Quebec, Alberta and Manitoba and 19 in British Columbia. Those ages apply to gambling in those provinces through their own providers. They do not change our rule: a Betty account requires you to be 19, full stop.
Safer play is part of the rules
Ontario's standards require operators to give players real tools to control their gambling and to act when play looks harmful. On Betty you can set deposit limits, turn on reality-check reminders, take a time-out from 24 hours to 6 weeks, or self-exclude for 6 months or longer. The tools work from any province. The full list, with helplines for Ontario, Quebec, BC, Alberta and Manitoba, is on our safer play page.
If you have a complaint
Most problems are solved quickly once the right person sees them, so please start with us.
- Contact support by email to our help desk, or through live chat in your account. Describe what happened and include any dates, amounts and game names.
- If the first reply does not settle it, ask for the complaint to be reviewed. A senior member of the team will look at it again and give you a final written answer.
- If you are an Ontario player and still not satisfied, you can take the complaint to iGaming Ontario through its complaint process.
More on how to reach us, and what to include so we can help faster, is on our contact page.
Anti-money-laundering duties
Like every regulated operator in Canada, we follow federal anti-money-laundering law. That is why we verify identity before the first withdrawal, why we may ask where deposited funds come from, and why withdrawals go back to a payment method in your own name. We are required to report certain transactions to the authorities, and we are not permitted to tell a player when a report has been made.
When this page changes
Provincial rules on online gambling have changed several times in recent years and may change again. When something here changes, we update this page and the date on it. If a change affects what you can do in a particular province, we also tell account holders by email.
